What to Know
The UNCW Seahawks will face off against the Sam Houston Bearkats at 4:00 p.m. ET on Friday at Trask Coliseum. The Seahawks are strutting in with some offensive muscle as they’ve averaged 89.8 points per game this season.
Sam Houston is facing UNCW at the wrong time: UNCW suffered their first home loss of the season on Wednesday and they’re likely out for redemption. They took a 72-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Raiders. The contest marked the Seahawks’ lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Harlan Obioha, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. His performance made up for a slower match against Kansas last Tuesday.
Even though they lost, UNCW smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That’s the most offensive rebounds they’ve posted since back in January.
Meanwhile, Sam Houston didn’t have quite enough to beat App. State on Wednesday and fell 66-63.
Like Sam Houston, they lost despite seeing results from several players. Lamar Wilkerson led the charge by earning 22 points in addition to five rebounds. Marcus Boykin was another key player, earning 11 points plus five assists and five rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for UNCW and nudges their season record down to 3-2. As for Sam Houston, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. UNCW hasn’t had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 89.8 points per game. However, it’s not like Sam Houston struggles in that department as they’ve been averaging 81. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
