Trade show: Innovations, launches and trends spotted at Cosmoprof Asia 2024

In total, 2,500+ companies exhibited at Cosmoprof 2024 and although Typhoon Toraji delayed the fair opening on the 14th November by a few hours, the four days of Cosmoprof Asia were busy, with 60,975 visitors from 119 countries attending both parts of the fair, compared to over 65,000 last year.

Several of the key trends amongst the finished beauty exhibitors were as expected – LED mask/beauty devices continued to be enormously popular as were claims related to active ingredients in face, body and hair care, as well as transforming textures in makeup and skin care products. In addition, the success of home and personal fragrances as well as babies and children’s care products in Asia-Pacific markets were also visible at the fair. Last but not least, #femcare launches (health & beauty products created to improve female health/wellness) were also a key highlight of the show.

Premium Beauty News spotted some of the most interesting beauty brands and product illustrating these trends.

LED-powered beauty devices

Amongst Korean face care brand Meditherapy’s latest launches is the anti-ageing Shumage range which includes a hand-bag sized LED face “stamp” designed to be used with the brand’s serums and creams. The LED stamp device offers red and yellow/amber light settings to help decrease inflammation in the skin (red light) and boost absorption (yellow light) of the active ingredients.

Smart scalp care/hair brush Touchbeauty Vita from Chinese manufacturer Touchbeauty Beauty & Health was launched in October 2024 and features an interesting twist. The Vita comes with a detachable brush head that features a small cavity. Simply drip the scalp tonic/serum into this opening and it will then be dispensed through four especially thick silver “bristles” directly onto the hair/scalp whilst using the brush. In addition, there are settings for red light, blue light and vibrations.

Femcare

Korean manufacturer Vivilux showed an interesting femcare launch: Luminiel Y-Care is an LED treatment mask designed to treat the vaginal area. This device is positioned as a health care rather than beautifying tool: A mixture of red, blue and amber lights treats bacterial infections that can cause vaginal dryness or odour and improve the vaginal microbiome. The device shaped like a pantyliner and comes with a USB-rechargeable battery pack.

Fellow Korean manufacturer Konxept Limited’s new product The Graphene LadiM received the Cosmoprof Award 2024 in the Personal Care & Body category. LadiM is a range of menstrual pads and pantyliners that include a small rectangular strip which is based on graphene and is said to be particularly absorbent. In addition to the graphene, the strip also contains red cedarwood extract and chitosan to help reduce odour, probiotic ingredients to improve the vaginal microbiome and antibacterial nano silver particles to reduce inflammation. The graphene also emits far-infrared waves which are claimed to help relieve menstrual pain.

Babies & kids care

Korean skin care manufacturer Goongbe’s tightly-segmented line-up of baby and children’s care goes far beyond what European baby care brands tend to offer. In total, there were 30+ sku across several sub-ranges, including a dedicated Baby range (0+ months) and Kids (36+ months), with textures and product types that are more commonly associated with adult K-beauty – water creams, barrier creams, gel creams, biome care or SPF cushions.

Packaging is simple and stylish and the product formulas are based on traditional Korean beauty ingredients, including the company’s trademarked Royal Oji Complex which contains peach tree, plum, mulberry, ash and willow tree bark extracts and the antioxidant-rich Royal Terratiguard Complex (plum blossom and bamboo leaf tea).

Malaysian Children’s beauty brand Ily by Jeong Family was launched in 2020 and its product line-up comprises 100+ sku of makeup, face care, hair, bath and body care and SPF products including sun serums and cushion compacts.

Fragrance & makeup

One of the most interesting C-Beauty exhibitors at Cosmoprof Asia 2024 was GenZ fragrance brand Im:Sole. Launched in 2020, the brand belongs to the new generation of domestic indie fragrance brands that continue to shape the fragrance market in mainland China. The brand’s product range comprises around 14 mostly gender-neutral fragrances. According to the brand, these are fragrances to be worn to express emotions or inner dialogues, reflecting the roles that we play in our daily lives. At the moment, Im:Sole fragrances are primarily sold through Chinese social media sites with limited distribution outside of mainland China. However, the company is planning to expand internationally in the near future.

Cosmoprof Asia first-time exhibitor Sunny Recipe from Korea launched in 2022 and offers colour-changing nail wraps. The company says it was the first brand to offer UV sensitive nail wraps on the Asian market. There are ten different sets in various colours, colour gradations and patterns – once the wraps are exposed to sun/day light they change colour/patterns in a few seconds.

According to KBV, theAsia-Pacific artificial nail market is set to grow 12.4% CAGR from 2024 to 2031. And while nail wraps and nail stickers are a comparatively tame way to add excitement to a manicure they are a low-barrier way of trying out new colours and patterns.
