Titans to start QB Josh Dobbs vs. Cowboys after signing with team last week: Source

The Titans are expected to start newly signed Josh Dobbs at quarterback when Tennessee faces the Cowboys on Thursday, according to reports. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Tennessee signed Dobbs, 27, off the Lions’ practice squad last week. This will be his first career NFL start.
  • Rookie Malik Willis started last week in place of the injured Ryan Tannehill. Willis went 14-of-23 passing for 99 yards, two interceptions, four sacks and one rushing touchdown during the Titans’ Week 16 loss to the Texans.

Backstory

The Steelers drafted Dobbs in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He played six games during his NFL career, all with Pittsburgh. Dobbs has also spent time with the Jaguars and Browns. He’s thrown for 45 yards and one interception on 17 passing attempts.

Willis has started three games this season and has struggled. He has attempted just 61 passes in his eight appearances. Among all QBs who have started at least three games in a single season since 2000, none have averaged fewer pass completions per start (8.33) or passing yards per start (78) than Willis.
