NBA DFS: Celtics vs. Mavericks FanDuel, DraftKings daily Fantasy basketball picks for 2024 NBA Finals, Game 1

The foursome of Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown will generate the most attention for NBA DFS lineups, but one shouldn’t overlook role players as the 2024 NBA Finals begins with Game 1 on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET. Dallas’ center combo of Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II has been impactful on both ends of the court and could be a sneaky NBA DFS stack. Meanwhile, Boston brings a pair of sharpshooters off the bench in Payton Pritchard and Sam Hauser. Just as these players perform a certain role for their teams, they could also serve a role as low-cost NBA DFS picks.

With a single-game slate on sites like FanDuel and DraftKings, the NBA DFS player pool is quite shallow. So, rostering economical options would then allow you to go all-in on the four stars featured in Celtics vs. Mavericks and not go over your NBA DFS salary cap. Before making your NBA DFS picks for Game 1 of Mavericks vs. Celtics, be sure to check out the NBA DFS advice, player rankings, stacks, and top daily Fantasy basketball picks from SportsLine’s Jimmie Kaylor.

Last Thursday, Kaylor highlighted Mavericks point guard Doncic as one of his top picks in his NBA DFS player pool on both sites. The result: Doncic recorded 36 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and two steals, returning 62.5 points on DraftKings and 57.5 points on FanDuel as the top scorer in the NBA DFS player pool. Anybody who included him in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable day.

Top NBA DFS picks for Thursday, June 6

For Thursday, one of Kaylor’s top NBA DFS picks is Celtics forward Tatum. After a shaky start to the 2024 NBA playoffs, Tatum has resembled the First-Team All-NBA player he was this regular season. He averaged just 21.7 points on 40.7% shooting through his first seven postseason games but has upped that production to 30.3 points on 46.6% shooting over his last seven games. His presence on the glass has remained consistent throughout as Tatum has 11 double-doubles across the 14 games.

The Mavs have been susceptible to opposing power forwards all year, giving up the seventh-most NBA DFS points to the position on DraftKings and the ninth-most on FanDuel. Tatum has scored at least 29 points in each of his last four games versus Dallas and posted a triple-double versus the Mavs in 2023. With Boston having All-Defensive selections White and Jrue Holiday likely getting assignments to guard Doncic and Irving, that should allow Tatum to devote more energy to the offensive end, giving him an even higher ceiling for Game 1.

Another part of Kaylor’s optimal NBA DFS strategy includes stacking Tatum with guard Derrick White. In his lone home game versus the Mavs this season, White was his typical stat-stuffing self with 13 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and two blocks. The two-time All-Defensive selection also has a knack for putting his best foot forward at the start of postseason series as White is averaging 20 points, six assists and 3.3 rebounds across Game 1s in the 2024 NBA playoffs.

Boston will have had nine days of rest in between its closeout victory over Indiana and the start of the NBA Finals. Count White as one who appreciated the rest as he averaged 21 points this season when coming off three-plus days of rest, compared to 14.3 points after two or fewer rest days. White may not be someone worth rostering in every game, but the rest factor and his Game 1 history make him a no-brainer for NBA DFS picks in the opener of the 2024 NBA Finals. See Kaylor’s other NBA DFS picks right here.
