March Madness 2024: Conference tournament updates, brackets, schedules, dates, times, TV channels

Postseason action continued ramping up around college basketball on Wednesday as the Big South, NEC and Ohio Valley Conference tournaments began. With a handful of others already underway, the battle for automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament bids is getting real.

One notable team that bowed out of the action on Wednesday was No. 5 seed FDU, which lost to No. 4 seed Le Moyne in the opening round of the NEC Tournament. The loss means the Knights won’t be replicating the March magic of 2023, when they upset No. 1 seed Purdue in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

But there was some drama in the NEC as No. 6 seed Wagner toppled No. 3 seed Sacred Heart 60-57 after losing both meetings in the regular season. Wagner is advancing to play No. 1 seed Central Connecticut State in the semifinals on Saturday after CCSU beat St. Francis 71-62. No. 2 seed Merrimack will take on Le Moyne in the other semifinal.

Seven different conference tournaments will be in action Thursday as the Missouri Valley and WCC join college basketball’s postseason fray. The ASUN is already to its semifinals as No. 2 seed Stetson will play No. 10 seed Jacksonville while No. 4 seed Austin Peay plays No. 6 seed North Alabama.

The top dogs in the MVC won’t be on display until Friday. But they will be watching the preliminary action closely. No 1 seed Indiana State awaits the winner of the tournament’s opening game between No. 8 seed Murray State and No. 9 seed Missouri State. No. 2 seed Drake will play either No. 7 seed Illinois State or No. 10 seed Evansville.

The Ohio Valley will be the first to crown a champion on Saturday. The Missouri Valley, Big South and ASUN will be just one day behind them as their tournaments conclude Sunday.

As automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament are secured, we’ll be noting each of them here.
