Even Michael B. Jordan Can’t Resist the Air Jordan 11 ‘Space Jam’

On Saturday, Michael B. Jordan was spotted out and about in Los Angeles. He pulled into a gas station along the highway, and while most onlookers were staring at his magnificent matte gray Ferrari 812 Superfast, we couldn’t help but admire the sneakers on his feet: the Air Jordan 11 ‘Space Jam.’

While this particular colorway debuted in 1995 when the Chicago Bulls went against Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference semifinals, the hype didn’t accrue until one year later, when Michael Jordan wore it in Space Jam. All of a sudden, everyone wanted a pair. Sizes sold out everywhere, and resellers began flipping them for 10 to 20 times their retail price.

MEGA

But in 2000, at the precipice of the millennium, a miracle happened: the ‘Space Jam’ restocked. And while there were some very minor differences between this one and the OG, that didn’t stop it from selling out. It re-released again in 2009, and then again in 2016. Nike has even introduced some spin-off models that also sold out instantly. All in all, it remains a solid investment sneaker.

So sure, the Creed star was gassing up one of the most beautiful Italian sports cars ever made, but his Air Jordans? For many trainer guys, these will always be the holiest grail out there. It’s hard to pinpoint when his particular pair dropped, but judging by the yellowing on the midsole, we’re pretty sure it was the ’09 release.

Be careful, Ben Affleck—Michael B. Jordan is building a just-as-mighty sneaker collection.
