Having severely dry skin and eczema was a constant battle for me as a kid, but I’ve gotten better at managing it over the years. My latest skin saga, though—dandruff—is one I’m only now starting to conquer. I used to avoid wearing dark T-shirts like they were cursed because, well, snowstorm vibes. I’ve tried countless anti-dandruff products, and most of them only seemed to invite more flakes to the party. Even one of the leading dandruff-fighting brands—you know, the one that rhymes with “Bed and Boulders”—left me high and dry (literally). After learning that diet and stress levels play a big role in preventing dandruff, I thought I had things under control. Unfortunately, my scalp disagreed.
Enter: Jupiter, a brand barely four years old but already shaking things up with salon-quality dandruff and dry scalp solutions. Jupiter launched in May 2020 with a mission to offer an elevated experience for people who wanted more than the basic blue-bottle shampoos.
So, what’s it like? I’ve been using Jupiter’s trio set for over a month, and my hair is officially living its best, flake-free life.
First up, the shampoo. I use it every other day, and it’s already an essential. It features a 100% natural fragrance with notes of vanilla, lavender, rosemary, coconut, and mint. I use about a quarter-sized dollop, scrub like my life depends on it, and rinse. The brand’s founder, Robbie Salter, broke down the science for me: “To label a product as treating dandruff, it must contain one of five FDA-regulated active ingredients: ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione, selenium sulfide, sulfur, or coal tar.” Jupiter’s shampoo contains zinc pyrithione, and judging by my scalp, it’s doing its job.
Next, the conditioner. It shares the same dreamy scent as the shampoo and includes a blend of coconut oils, colloidal oatmeal, and vitamins B and E to keep hair and scalp happy. I let it sit for about 45 seconds before rinsing, and my hair comes out hydrated, itch-free, and shiny. Salter explains, “We’ve combined the cleansing power of the shampoo with the softening and inflammation-reducing effects of colloidal oatmeal in our conditioner.” He’s not kidding—my curls are thriving.
The real winner, though, is Jupiter’s restoring serum, a leave-on treatment featuring—you guessed it—zinc pyrithione. I apply it every morning and night, and a little goes a long way. Robbie describes it as “essentially restoring the great ingredients the shampoo lays down. It’s about cleansing, hydrating, and covering. When natural oils break down the moisture barrier or microbiome, the serum steps in to reinforce it all.”
These products are a permanent fixture in my shower lineup: They’re luxurious yet effective, a rare combo in the dandruff world. Looks like my flaky days are finally behind me—and honestly? Good riddance.
