2024 Paris Olympics golf odds, picks, field: Surprising predictions from model that's called 13 majors

The 2024 Paris Olympics will be the third time in a row that the Summer Games have included golf, and the 2024 Olympics men’s golf tournament begins on Thursday at Le Golf National. Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood and Alex Noren were all members of Team Europe when they won the 2018 Ryder Cup at Le Golf National and they’ll be looking to put that course knowledge to work during the 2024 Olympics. McIlroy competed in a seven-way playoff for the bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and now he’ll look to bring a medal home for Ireland.

In addition to his success at the 2018 Ryder Cup, McIlroy was also T-3 in the 2016 Open de France and he’s listed at +700 in the 2024 Paris Olympics golf odds. However, Americans have dominated the golf landscape in 2024 — winning all four majors — and it’s Scottie Scheffler (+300) and Xander Schauffele (+525) of Team USA that sit atop the Olympic golf odds board. Before locking in your 2024 Olympics golf picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model is up nearly $9,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 13 majors entering the weekend, including the 2024 Masters — its third Masters in a row — and this year’s PGA Championship and U.S. Open. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now with the 2024 Summer Olympics golf field locked in, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top 2024 Paris Olympics golf predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2024 Olympics golf tournament: McIlroy (+700), a four-time major winner on the PGA Tour and one of the top favorites, stumbles this week and doesn’t even crack the top five. McIlroy is coming off a disappointing British Open where he missed the cut. He shot 11-over-par which is tied for his third-worst score at any major tournament over his 51 career major starts. This was McIlroy’s first missed cut of the 2024 PGA Tour season, but the last time he missed a cut back in 2023, he then struggled again in his ensuing event, placing 47th.

McIlroy was tied for third place after 72 holes at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics golf tournament, pushing him into a seven-golfer playoff for the bronze. However, the struggles he’s had down the stretch at major tournaments were also present at that Olympics as he was eliminated on the third hole of the sudden-death playoff and missed out on a medal. Unfortunately for McIlroy, fading down the stretch of high-profile tournaments has been a recurring theme since his last major win a decade ago, so the model sees better options with 2024 Olympics golf bets. See who else to fade here.

Another surprise: Hideki Matsuyama (Japan), a +2200 longshot, makes a strong run at the gold medal. Like McIlroy, Matsuyama was also part of the seven-way playoff for a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (played in 2021 because of the pandemic) that was eventually won by CT Pan.

However, Matsuyama is a nine-time PGA Tour winner and an 18-time winner worldwide, including a win at the 2021 Masters to become the first Japanese major champion. Matsuyama won the 2024 Genesis Invitational earlier this season and he’s currently the No. 12 player in the Official World Golf Ranking. He’ll look to tap into his premier ball striking (fourth on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: tee-to-green) to get into medal contention at Le Golf National. See who else to back here.

The model is also targeting three other golfers with odds of +2000 or longer who will make a strong run at the gold medal. You can only see the model’s picks here.
