2024 PGA Championship odds, picks, field, predictions: Golf insider high on Brooks Koepka at Valhalla

The reigning FedEx Cup champion is off to a rough start in 2024. Viktor Hovland claimed his first FedEx Cup title last season and won the final two tournaments of the year, but this season, the 26-year-old hasn’t flirted with a victory. Hovland has finished no better than 19th in his seven PGA Tour events and if the season ended today, he wouldn’t qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs. Hovland is 35-1 in the 2024 PGA Championship odds, so could there be value in including the 2023 PGA Championship runner-up in your 2024 PGA Championship predictions?

Scottie Scheffler, who has won four of his last five tournaments, is the 3-1 favorite in the 2024 PGA Championship field. Rory McIlroy, coming off back-to-back victories, follows at 6-1 PGA Championship 2024 odds to win. Max Homa (33-1) is chasing his first major title but finished third at the Masters, so is he a longshot worth considering as one of the possible 2024 PGA championship sleepers? Before locking in any 2024 PGA Championship picks, make sure you see the PGA Tour predictions and best bets from golf betting and fantasy expert Sia Nejad.

Nejad specializes in betting and DFS in golf, among other sports. He’s had success in the outright and first-round leader markets and in betting head-to-head matchups. He also has been solid with his head-to-head matchups since last year’s Charles Schwab Challenge, going 43-28-3 and returning 11.24 units over that span. That’s a $1,124 profit for $100 bettors since May 2023.

Nejad also nailed Clark, a 75-1 longshot, as the outright winner at the Wells Fargo Championship. In 2023, SportsLine debuted “The Early Wedge,” and in the first three months of the show, he hit two first-round leaders and three outright winners.

Now, Nejad has focused his attention on the 2024 PGA Championship field and has locked in his best bets, top sleepers and favorites to avoid. See who they are at SportsLine.

Top 2024 PGA Championship expert picks

One surprise: Nejad is completely fading Xander Schauffele, even though he’s fourth in the 2024 PGA Championship odds. Schauffele is considered one of the best active golfers who has still not won a major title, with his best finishes being T2 at the 2018 Open Championship and T2 at the 2019 Masters. This has been one of his worst majors though, as he has never finished better than T10 in seven attempts.

Schauffele missed the cut in 2021, finished T13 in 2022 and T18 last year. He ranks outside the top 30 on the PGA Tour in driving distance, driving accuracy and proximity, which will put him at a disadvantage against some of the golfers in this field. Nejad knows Schauffele has the tools to contend, but his poor history at the end of majors makes him a golfer to avoid this week.

Instead, Nejad is high on the chances of Brooks Koepka, even though he’s a double-digit longshot at 10-1. Koepka won last year’s PGA Championship by two strokes after shooting a 3-under-par on the final round en route to a 9-under-par finish. He won back-to-back PGA Championships in 2018 and 2019, and Tiger Woods is the only other golfer in the 21st century to win back-to-back PGA Championships.

Koepka struggled to hit fairways at the Masters, hitting 62% of his drives onto the fairway compared to the tournament average of 71%. That poor accuracy was a main reason why he finished 45th, his second-worst showing over his last five majors. If he has better control over his driver this weekend, Koepka could better resemble the five-time major champion. Koepka is also coming off a victory in Singapore, so given his recent success and comfort level competing in PGA Championship events, Nejad sees value in using Koepka in 2024 PGA Championship bets. See who else to back at SportsLine.

How to make 2024 PGA Championship picks

Nejad has locked in his early best bets for the 2024 PGA Championship and is backing a longshot who is priced at more than 30-1. Nejad likes this player’s “skill set at the PGA Championship when the number is this long.” You can see Nejad’s PGA Tour picks only at SportsLine.
