Men’s and women’s beach volleyball are among the highlights of Tuesday’s schedule at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The women’s beach volleyball quarterfinal match at 4 p.m. ET between Americans Sara Hughes and Kelly Cheng vs. Switzerland’s Tanja Huberli and Nina Brunner will be in the spotlight. The Americans are the favorites at -140, while the Swiss are at +112 in the latest Olympic beach volleyball odds. Huberli and Brunner are coming off a 23-21, 21-16 win over Liliana Fernandez Steiner and Paula Soria Gutierrez of Spain in the Round of 16, while Hughes and Cheng outlasted Italy’s Valentina Gottardi and Marta Menegatti 21-18, 17-21, 15-12.
In a men’s beach volleyball quarterfinal, Germany’s Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler will face Stefan Boermans and Yorick De Groot of the Netherland at noon ET. The Germans advanced with a 21-16, 21-17 Round of 16 win over Brazil’s George Souto Maior Wanderley and Andre Loyola Stein on Sunday. And in men’s basketball, Team USA is a 27-point favorite as it takes on Brazil in the quarterfinals at 3:30 p.m. ET. Before locking in any 2024 Summer Olympics picks on those events or others, you need to see what SportsLine Olympic insider Mike Tierney has to say.
A national sportswriter whose work appears in The New York Times and Los Angeles Times, Tierney has covered nine Olympic Games in person. At Rio in 2016, Tierney profited big-time. He told readers to bet over on Team USA’s gold medal count (41.5) and over on Team USA’s overall medal count (102.5). The result? 46 golds, 121 medals and two easy cashes. Then, at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Tierney hit two of his three predictions: Germany (+200) to win the most gold medals and the United States winning under 10.5 gold medals (+110). Anybody following has seen some big returns.
Now, Tierney has broken down the 2024 Olympics from every possible angle and revealed his best bets for Tuesday, Aug. 6. You can visit SportsLine now to see his 2024 Summer Olympics picks.
Top 2024 Paris Olympics picks for August 6
Tierney expects the United States to come away with a victory over Brazil as the knockout stage of men’s basketball gets underway on Tuesday. He doesn’t believe, however, that the Americans will cover the massive 27-point spread. The U.S. has only covered the spread once and has not recorded a win by more than 26 at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The United States has a hefty advantage in the all-time series with Brazil, posting 23 wins in 30 tries.
“After beating the spread versus Serbia in its debut, the U.S. has seemed uninterested in pulling away from foes,” Tierney told SportsLine. “Brazil can hang with the Americans. It excels on the offensive boards, a relative U.S. weakness, and tops the field with 45 percent shooting on threes. The Brazilians have won just once, but had respectable defeats to France by 12 and Germany by 13. Here’s guessing the U.S. will salt away a victory, then look ahead to the semis rather than pursue a blowout.” See the rest of Tierney’s picks here.
